Bidirectional Charger Guide
A bidirectional charger moves energy in both directions between a DC source system and a battery. In one direction it charges the battery from the source. In the other it supplies the load system from the battery. That two-way ability is the difference between a charger and a bidirectional charger, and it changes what a system can do: a battery becomes both a load and a source, rather than only a store that is filled and then drained through a separate path.
The fully specified example on this site is the WG-BC1500M series, which states bidirectional energy flow, waterproof construction, RS485 communication, support for charging while the engine runs, and service for 12, 24, 36 and 48 volt lithium and AGM batteries. Its stated applications are drones, marine use, industrial use, telecom, new energy vehicles, solar energy storage, unmanned aerial vehicles, and vehicle-mounted power systems, all of which share the pattern of a battery that must both charge and supply.
Two-way operation raises a control question: who decides which direction energy flows, and when. In a vehicle that decision may follow the engine state. In a vessel it may follow whether the vessel is under way or at anchor. In an energy installation it may follow a controller's command, which is where RS485 communication earns its place. State the control arrangement in the inquiry, together with the bank voltage and chemistry, and before ordering, confirm quantity, price and delivery time. Certificates are available upon request.
