High Voltage DC-DC Converter Guide

High voltage DC-DC conversion covers the systems that run above the familiar 12 and 24 volt levels: 48 volt telecom and energy buses, 60 volt vehicle packs, and 72 volt traction packs. The converter's job in those systems is usually to step down to a lower working voltage, 12 or 24 volts, for accessories, controllers, and subsystems, and the categories on this site list several routes to that job.

The wide input ranges in the isolated and buck-boost categories are the key feature for high voltage work. A 48 volt battery bank does not sit at 48 volts: it rises when charging and falls as it discharges, and a 72 volt traction pack moves across a similar band. A converter with a narrow input range can drop out at the ends of that band, while a converter with a range like 36 to 90 volts keeps delivering through it. The WGI10 isolated series, with its 36 to 90 volt input, is the fully specified example on this site.

For a high voltage job, state the full input band the system will see, not just the nominal voltage, together with the load current and the environment. Before ordering, confirm quantity, price and delivery time. Certificates are available upon request.
