12V to 48V Converter
A 12 volt to 48 volt converter steps a 12 volt supply up to 48 volts. That is a fourfold rise, the widest step in the boost category on this site, and it arises where a system has only a 12 volt source, such as a vehicle battery, but must run equipment built for the 48 volt telecom and industrial standard. The boost category lists a 12 volt to 48 volt option for that job.
The sizing rule for a wide step matters more than for a narrow one. At a fourfold rise, the 12 volt input current is roughly four times the 48 volt output current for the same power, before losses. The input wiring, fusing, and source must be sized for that current, and the source battery must be able to deliver it without its voltage collapsing. A buyer specifying this conversion should state the 48 volt load current and the source capacity in the inquiry, so the confirmation covers the whole circuit.
For telecom loads specifically, the isolated detail page is also relevant, since telecom equipment often wants an isolated supply. The WGI10 series covers a 48 volt nominal input, not a 12 volt input, so it is not the answer to a 12 to 48 volt job, but it illustrates the isolation standard a telecom buyer should expect.
